TBoy - About Us

Photobucket

January 18th 2008 my family lost my eldest brother Bryon Lamar Davis to colon cancer. Bryon’s death came 3 days before his 38th birthday. To date it has been the most devastating thing I have experienced in my life.

My brother was an amazing being. He was an actor and a singer but his forte was dance. When Bryon danced the whole world took notice. There was something so magical about the way he could manipulate his body. I can’t describe the way he made you feel when he danced or the way he could elate you with his choreography.

Bryon was the type of human being who just didn’t accept the word, “no.” There was absolutely nothing that Bryon didn’t think he could do or overcome. He never thought for a second that anyone was too small, or not popular enough, or not talented enough to do whatever their heart desired. He gave over 100% everyday and demanded that everyone around him do the same. Bryon could meet you and in seconds recognize your potential and God help you if you were not living up to it. At times he almost made you feel like you were never going to be good enough, but he wouldn’t stop pushing you until you recognize that your life has no limits!

I was a person who constantly lived in fear of failing at anything I set out to do, so I didn’t do a whole lot (imagine that). I was passionate about acting and being an actor but was terrified that I didn’t have what it takes to succeed in my field. When I turned 31, January 21st of 2009, I thought to myself, “If I only had 6 more years of life to live, what would I want to accomplish?” By the time Bryon died he had a Masters in dance, he was a Major in the Army Reserves, he was a husband, a father, he had taken over the dance troupe at his alma mater, Lincoln University, and still found time to mentor to a frady cat like me.

Without a doubt I can say I would never have started my own theatre company were it not for the inspiration of Bryon Davis. I’ll never be able to fill his shoes (for one thing he wore a size 13 ½). I regret that it took his death to wake me up and get me in the game of life. My eyes are now fully open and my heart has grown 3x’s it’s size. I now know my life has no limitations. I can make a difference everywhere I go. Tumorboy Productions isn’t just another theatre company to me. Its an opportunity to change someone’s life for the better every time we put on a show. Whether I have 6 years left or 60, I know now that it’s never too late to make a difference!

MEET THE BOARD

Artistic Director: Angel Davis

Though having lived in Dallas for five years now, she still considers herself a native Oklahoman. She graduated from The University of Oklahoma (Go Sooners) with a BFA in theatre. Her mom would argue she’s been “acting” all her life (her mom would also add the words Drama Queen...but what does her mom know?) but she’s been actively pursuing it since the age of 13. She enjoys being the "arm-candy" of Mr. Tumorboy himself. Recently her and the Tumorboy discovered that they are going to have a baby "tumorgirl" next March. She’s excited to be apart of Dallas theatre and excited at the opportunity to make a difference in the community.

Associate Artistic Director: Oscar Contreras

Oscar is excited to join TB productions as Associate Artistic Director. When Angel offered him a position within the company he thought, "Since the downturn of the economy we now have no money, we both know very little about owning a company, we have no audience base, the lead positions would be ran by two minorities...YES! What a great time to start a theatre company." No in all seriousness he loves the sweet Angel and loves the idea of using his talents to give back to the community.

Event Planner: Jamie Marchi

Born in Knoxville, though never considerered herself a "Knoxvillian" Jamie made a home for herself here in Dallas a few years after majoring in A** Kicking at the University of Oklahoma (Go Sooners). Jamie has been acting professionally for 9 years. In her spare time Jamie likes 80's music, dancing, watching football, spending time with friends, making fun of people who take long walks on the beach, and generally just being a fabulous redhead!

Grant Writer Extraordinaire: Brad Allen (The Tumor Boy)

Also a native Oklahoma, although not a big sports fan so..(Go Shakespeare!). Brad has been acting for ga-jillion years. In some circles he's known as "The King of Radio" due to his extensive voiceover resume. He's not 100% sure if his weird relationship with pheochromocytoma tumors began as a result of losing his bachelor status, (the first one was discovered during his courtship with Miss Angel Davis), or just a result of weird bio-chemical matter. None the less, Brad has thrown on his cape (okay so he doesn't really have a cape)and faced the tumors head own twice now. He hopes the only tumor he'll have to battle in the future is the one currently growing inside of his beatiful mate. Brad is excited to be apart of TBP and looks forward the adventures ahead.

Thanks for posting this. I knew Bryon at Lincoln University. He was a good friend and continues to be a source of inspiration. I can’t say what brought him to mind...I didn’t even realize that we are approaching the 10 year anniversary of his departure...but somehow he came to my mind, again at a time when I needed a reminder to live this life courageously..love hard and enjoy the ride. Sometimes we don’t know what a good thing we have until they are gone

The last memory I have of him..he and Tiffany came to town and LaRhonda and I took them out so that he could dance. Dancing was his resilience and you could see him come alive every time he touched the dance floor.

Though we haven’t met..I send you and your family love and blessings. Thank you for this

    Montague
